VAUXHALL'S ALL NEW 155MPH
ASTRA VXR REVEALED
04 November 2011

· First pics released of most powerful production Astra ever built
· Trailblazing 280PS and 400Nm outputs trounce those of key rivals
· Bespoke chassis with limited slip diff and Brembo brakes
· On sale in 2012

Hot on the heels of the recently launched GTC, these are the first official pics of the new Astra VXR, which goes on sale next year and is set to become one of the most powerful cars in its class and the fastest production Astra in Vauxhall’s history.

Based on the GTC’s platform and powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged direct injection engine, the Astra VXR produces 280hp of power and a mighty 400Nm of torque, enough for it to achieve a top speed of 155mph.

But while the Astra VXR is based on the new GTC, it has benefited from a raft of bespoke chassis modifications, transforming it into a focused, high-performance coupe. Setting it apart from all other current Astras is a specially developed mechanical limited slip differential, which works on the front wheels. In conjunction with the GTC’s sophisticated HiPerStrut (High Performance Strut), the LSD provides the Astra VXR with exceptional lateral grip and traction through bends.

Further changes to the chassis include brakes developed by competition supplier, Brembo, and standard fitment of Vauxhall’s fully adaptive FlexRide system. In the Astra VXR, FlexRide features not only a Sport button, but a VXR button, offering drivers the choice of two, more focused stages of damper, throttle and steering control.

Visual identifiers for the Astra GTC comprise a set of specially sculpted front and rear bumpers, side skirts, an aerodynamic roof spoiler and two exhaust tail pipes in a trapeze shape. Inside, the VXR’s cabin gets bespoke performance seats with embossed logos in the backs, a flat-bottomed VXR steering wheel and upgraded instruments.

The UK is by far the Astra VXR’s biggest market in Europe, so sales interest in the car is set to be strong. More details, including pricing and on-sale dates, will be revealed early next year.

HYUNDAI I30 WINS WHICH? AWARD
12 October 2011

i30 wins prestigious Which magazine award

•    Hyundai wins prestigious award from consumer magazine Which?

•    Brand praised for its fuel efficient and affordable i20 and i30 models and its five year, fully transferable, unlimited mileage warranty

•    i20 and i30 receive Which? 'Best Buy' status, with i30 ranking fourth in the medium cars reliability index and i20 ranking sixth in the super-minis.

Leading consumer publication Which? presented the prestigious award of Best Car Manufacturer to Hyundai, at its annual ceremony in London today. Hyundai won the accolade over rivals BMW, Mazda, Skoda and Toyota.

Which? is the largest consumer body in the UK with over 650,000 members. It is completely independent and works on behalf of consumers to ensure they get the best possible advice. The Which? awards commend the 'best of the best' in products and services.

Owners gave Hyundai 82 per cent in the Which? reliability survey, and 84 per cent in the satisfaction survey. In addition, Which? was also impressed by Hyundai's competitive prices and its five year unlimited miles warranty deal, while two models - the i20 and i30 - won 'Best Buy' status following rigorous Which? tests.

Peter Vicary-Smith, chief executive of Which?, said; "To win a Which? Award, not only must a company offer outstanding products or services, it must also deliver exceptional value and a great customer experience.  This is especially important at a time when consumers are really feeling the pinch.

While all those in the shortlist performed well over the past 12 months, Hyundai stood out thanks to its great warranty deal and value for money cars."

Hyundai's UK managing director, Tony Whitehorn, said; "We're delighted to win the award for Best Car Manufacturer. We strive to give our customers the very best value for money by offering quality vehicles that are well equipped, reliable and affordable in terms of price. In addition, our five year, fully transferable, unlimited mileage warranty that comes with all of our vehicles ensures that our customers have total peace of mind."

He continued to say; "We have an exciting year ahead and will soon launch the all-new i40 Tourer, followed by the 2+1 door coupe Veloster and then the i40 Saloon. Consumers will notice another step change in terms of quality with these new products and we are confident that it will further improve our already competitive product offering."

HYUNDAI I800 AUTO
RECOGNISED IN AWARDS
06 October 2011
i800

Just weeks after its launch into the marketplace, Judges at The Chauffeur Car of the Year Awards 2011 have named the Hyundai i800 Automatic as the best MPV for the industry.

In 2010, the Hyundai i800 won the award for the first time, and since then, chauffeurs have been calling for an automatic version as the vehicle already offered ample passenger and luggage space. Since the announcement, the industry has given the vehicle the thumbs-up and judges of the awards have recognised the vehicle as a class leader.

The i800 fought off competition in the MPV category such as the Volkswagen Caravelle and Mercedes-Benz Viano and was crowned for its ability to carry up to eight passengers including luggage and special chauffeur discounts which were recently announced by the Korean manufacturer.

Paul Gibson, editor of thechauffeur.com commented; “We made an unprecedented move this year by awarding a vehicle so soon after its launch into the marketplace. We know the industry has been calling for an Automatic version of the i800 since the manual version was introduced.

He added; “Now, the with the chauffeur catered for in terms of specification, special prices for the industry, acres of luggage space and passenger comfort, we are delighted to give this award to the i800 Automatic.’

The Chauffeur Car of the Year Awards are run by industry online magazine www.thechauffeur.com were launched in 2005. The awards set out to discover and crown the best vehicles to suit the hire and reward chauffeur market in the UK in a number of categories.

Other categories in The Chauffeur Car of the Year Awards saw the Audi A8 Long-wheelbase and BMW 5GT both recognised as best in their class.

AFCB IN SEWARD STADIUM DEAL
09 May 2011

Seward Stadium

AFC Bournemouth has secured a further top-level commercial sponsorship, representing one of the largest in the Club's history.
Having already agreed a significant agreement earlier this season with Focal Point as the new Shirt Sponsor, Seward Motor Group has committed to the naming rights of the Dean Court Stadium in a three-year deal. Alongside all other valued sponsor support, it is a huge assistance in the commercial sustainability of the Club.
Enjoying a long history with AFC Bournemouth, Seward has sponsored the Club in varying degrees since 1998, making the company one of the longest serving commercial supporters. A previous shirt sponsor for eight years, the relationship with AFC Bournemouth has been extensive, but this is the first time the organisation has committed at such a significant level.

Seward Chairman, John Saunders is looking forward to watching the transition to the 'Seward Stadium' at Dean Court from July 1 2011, when the sponsorship officially starts. AFC Bournemouth is one of the only Clubs in this Division to achieve a naming rights deal.

John Saunders says: "We have watched and worked closely with the management team over the past two years. The Club is vastly improved and we are proud to endorse their hard work and be associated on this increased level. Our objective for the sponsorship, over and above genuine support for the Club, is to generate front of mind awareness of our brand across a family market in the region.
We are seeing this as an active partnership; part of our package includes some of our sales' profits reinvested back into the Club. Fans will benefit from exclusive discounts so they can enjoy added value from our support directly too. We very much see this as an arrangement which goes beyond a cash deal; we want to be hands on."

As AFC Bournemouth heads into the Play-Offs, this commercial injection sends out waves of positivity to a performing team hoping for its next phase of achievement. Chairman Eddie Mitchell is proud of both the Club's results and commercial success.

He says: "To see a good local family brand commit on this level is a testament indeed to the hard work which has gone into the Club. The fans have never been so supportive and to have the backing of such strong commercial partnerships is reassurance to all that we are an ambitious Club with long term goals."

The deal was formally announced in front of one of the biggest crowds of the season prior to the final npower League 1 match against Rochdale before Bournemouth embarks on the Play-Offs.

CHEVROLET TOPS RELIABILITY INDEX
12 April 2011
Chvrolet Logo

Chevrolet has come top in Warranty Direct’s latest reliability index based on the number of warranty claims, cost of repair, mileage and age of its cars.

The UK reliability index takes into account all factors of a repair, the cost of the parts and the frequency of failures.

The average of all cars is 100 which means that if the figure for the car you are looking at has a higher than average index (118) it indicates that that car is less reliable than the average, if however there is a lower than average index (60) the reliability is better.

Chevrolet took top place with a rating of 20. Honda came second with a rating of 30 and Suzuki came third with a rating of 41.

Alfa Romeo, Jeep and Land Rover were the worst performing brands with ratings of 169, 187 and 206 respectively.

View the full results of Warranty Direct's latest UK reliability index.

Chevrolet also tops the charts for repair costs – at £195.14 per repair claim; Chevrolet beats its nearest rival, Fiat, by over £40. To make it a hat trick, Chevrolet also claims the lowest ‘time-off-the-road’ in terms of repairs, with an average of 1.41 days per claim to repair. Second placed Suzuki’s score is 1.67.

Duncan McClure-Fisher, Warranty Direct’s managing director, said: “Honda has held the top spot in our overall manufacturer’s reliability table for many months, so for Chevrolet to knock them off their perch is a major coup.

“You have to bear in mind that we do not hold as many policies on Chevrolets as Honda models but, nevertheless, the data we do have clearly shows that Chevrolets are trustworthy vehicles.”

Chevrolet offers customers a “Five Year Promise” aftersales product on each of its news cars which includes a five year warranty, roadside assistance, servicing, MoT insurance and vehicle health checks.

Mark Terry, Chevrolet UK managing director, said: “Our dealers are clearly making an effort to minimise the disruption of any repairs to our customers, and helping them keep their cost down at a time when we’re all watching our pennies.”
